What Causes Foul Smell During Menstruation?

I am currently having my mentrual cycle. It is not anything like I usually have. It is very light, I have had no cramps, but what bothers me most is that it has a terribly foul smell. What could be causing this? I am 38, 5'5" and weigh around 180 lbs.
