What Causes Foul-smelling Open Wounds Under Armpits?
Hello. I have been suffering with hidradenitis suppurativa (sp?) For some time now. I get open wounds under my armpits and they release a foul smell as I progress through the day. How can I curb or hide the smell without deodorant since I can t use it?

Hi,
As you are a diagnosed case and the symptoms are recurring thus following is my opinion:
i. Probably, the glands are destroyed and hiding the bacteria and it could be a possibility of developing of sinus tract under armpits [cause of not healing properly and emitting foul smell]
ii. Do check with your PCP or dermatologist for following laboratory investigation:
* Complete blood count
* ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate)
* C-reactive protein
* Serum iron level and serum protein electrophoresis
iii. Ultrasonography of hair follicles and
iv. Bacteriological analysis of the fluid (pus / blood) from the site
v. Also, try to minimize the aggravating factors like the reduction of weight [if over weight], cessation of smoking
