Hi. I have had my thyroid removed due to thyroid cancer. I had RAI treatment 6 months ago. Trying to get my thyroid levels correct as I was hypothyroid but won t get tested again for about a month. My urine smells like ammonia. Could this be linked to my thyroid issues?
Hello and welcome to HCM. As an Urologist, i can understand your concern. You should be drinking around 10-12 glasses fluids daily. If you drink less than 4-5 glasses, the urine will be dark yellow colored and have an odor,as it's concentrated urine. The odor is not due to ammonia. If you drink more fluids, the urine will be pale yellow colored, with no smell. This has nothing to do with the thyroid issue.Hope your doubts are cleared. If you've any doubts, you may send it as a direct question, to me. Dr.Matthew J. Mangat.
