What Causes Foul Taste In Mouth And Soreness In Throat After Using Budesonide?

I was given budesonide to use as sinus rinse. After about one week, my throat and mouth tasted bad. A few days ago I started to get a sore throat/neck on right side. I used a flashlight to take a peek (ew!). Where my right post nasal drains, there is a white glob that I can't clear out by inhaling, coughing, or rinsing. Is this just a cold symptom or from the budesonide rinse? I stopped using it as of yesterday.

NOTE: I am being evaluated for CSF leak, and right side of neck and head have been involved.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain foul taste in mouth is a side effect of budesonide inhaler while sore throat, and a white glob are due to post nasal drip secondary to sinus infection leading to infection and inflammation in throat..
It seems like strep throat and along with sinus rinse or budesonide inhaler that is a steroid rinse you need to take other medications and remedies for relief from infection and sore throat..
You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can advise you to take antibiotics like Cephexime or Azithromycin or Levofloxacin, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, warm saline gargles atleast 3 times a day, saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation with few drops of eucalyptus oil in it as it will help in improving the smell and taste also and help in relieving congestion..
Sip on warm water throughout the day and take sufficient rest..
Sleep with head raised and chin down to facilitate draining..

As the intake of the inhaler will be stopped the taste will gradually improve..
