Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a female, who is 49 years old. 167 cm in height and 84 Kg is my weight. I have been on lithium for almost 2 years and I have noticed a very strong odour that is coming from my vagina area. I can take a shower and notice the odour is present within a couple hours of showering. Could it be from the medication? I also have noticed that I have the shakes. It seems to be getting worse. Is there something I can take to get rid of the shakes?
Dear Ma'am, Hi & Welcome. 1. Foul vaginal odor can be due vaginal dryness, but can also be indicative of an infection. A course of appropriate antibiotic after consulting a gynecologist will solve this problem. 2. Hand tremor (shakes) appear to be due to Lithium induced side effect. Since this problem is getting worsened so kindly consult your doctor for possible discontinuing the medication or he may try different dosages of the medicine, or you may be prescribed another medicine to treat your condition. If the symptoms are getting worse a drug such as Propranolol may be added to help control the shakes. Your symptoms may not resolve immediately after stopping the offending medication. Symptoms usually subside in about 4 months, but in some cases, it may take up to 18 months. Hope the suggestions given above would be useful
