What Causes Frequent And Loose Stools Post Partial Removal Of Bowel?

My husband has been ill recently with a bad back. He has a stoma bag after having part of his bowel removed due to diverticulitus. He is having more tests for crohns disease because his motions are usually runny and he needs to empty his bag several times a day. He has trouble eating so is underweight. He recently had a full blood tests where his liver section showed very very high. He is a regular drinker but only a couple of cans of lager a night. Any ideas?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to a condition called short bowel syndrome. The frequency of stools will be increased after major resection of the bowel. Your body adapts to it generally and will settle by itself. No definite treatment is required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
