What Causes Frequent Bowel Movement And Flatulence After Having Diarrhea?

I am 50 year old female. 3 months ago had diarrhea for one week, and since then have had a change in my bowel movements. I go to the bathroom 3-4 times a day, and have a lot of gas and a lot of bowel movement. Each time I spend about 20-30 minutes on the toilet. At first they looked like little peanuts, but more recently they are long and very thin, about the size of my thumb. I have a colonoscopy scheduled in 30 days but have requested that it is moved to sooner. No blood in stools.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of frequent bowel movement and flatulence after having diarrhea which seems to be either infection, ulcers or inflammation in gastrointestinal tract and it is due to underlying systemic pathology. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to proton pump inhibitors and antacids such as Pantoprazole along with domperidone. You should take oral rehydration solution for maintaining the hydration and electrolyte balance of the body. Avoid intake of large foods , spicy food, try to prefer small and frequent meals. You should consult gastroenterologist once and get complete blood investigations done along with ultrasound and stool test. Take plain and soft food and avoid hot, food that cause gas formation like dairy products and cabbage.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
