What Causes Frequent Bowel Movements With Abdominal Pain And Blood In Stool?

My husband has been having bouts of bowl movements with cramping and feeling below his belly button that he has to keep going to the bathroom it comes on all of a sudden there is a lot of blood in the stool when this happens could this be a form of colitis?
