What Causes Frequent Clear Nasal Discharge Post Sinus Surgery?
I have clear fluid dripping out of my nose when I bend over..not all the time but some like now...I did have sinus surgery to remove polphs n clean out infection this yr. Sept. 1.....I do the sinus flush at least 2 times a day...I went back several times for follow up care...I did tell the Dr. about this n he said he felt like it was allergies...He did look up inside my nose all the return visits except 1.... today before that started I had a bitter taste in my mouth n I would see colored drainage coming down the back of my throat...course I spit it out n did a sinus flush n gargle my mouth out..
It is possible, as indicated by your doctor that the persisting clear drip may be due to allergies. Allergies tend to cause a clear discharge as compared to cloudy or colored discharge that may be seen with infections.
You can consider allergy testing if you want to definitively know the source of your allergies. This can be in the form of blood or skin prick testing.
If the specific allergen is known then your exposure can be reduced or eliminated.
In addition the use of topical steroid nasal sprays (Eg nasonex, nasocort, flonase, rhinocort), antihistamine/decongestant combinations may also be helpful.
If you still have problems, then meds such as ketotifen or singulair may be necessary.
I hope this helps
