What Causes Frequent Diarrhea And Blood And Gel Like Discharge From Anus?

I have frequent diarrhea and excessive gas. I also have a gel like discharge and red blood every time I go to the bathroom....with or without a bowel movement. I have to wipe myself many times. This has been going on for months. I did have a colonoscopy about a year and a half ago. Everything was fine then. My doctor suspects internal bleeding hemorrhoids or rectal prolapse but I m concerned that it may be colon cancer. I m a 62 year old female. What are your thoughts?

Welcome to health care magic,

Bleeding during defection with diarrhea and excessive gas passing since few days could be due to piles or fissures, fistula or rarely any growth in rectum etc.

But it is difficult to tell exactly without clinical examination and digital rectal examination.

So,first you need to get examined by surgeon to rule out above possibilities.Colonoscopy should also be repeated once again since you had it before 1 year.

There is vary rare chance of having colon cancer or rectal prolapse by which one may experience blood or gel like mucus in stool with diarrhea,so I will not think above these possibility at right now and will want to rue out the commonest above possibility first.

You will require quinolones antibiotics with antiprotozoals if the cause is piles or fissure.

Anovate or Dobesil cream or ointment to be applied over anus after defecation,Hot sitz bath,Sit naked in hot warm water for 15 minutes.

Avoid alcohol,
Avoid oily and spicy foods.

Consult general surgeon for above investigations and examination.
