Hello!
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
There are many conditions that can give dizziness.
If I were her treating doctor I would first try to exclude the most common causes such as :
-Anemia (low red blood count and low hemoglobin).this diagnosis can be confirmed by a
complete blood count.
-Both low and
high blood pressure can give dizziness. She need to monitor her blood pressure to exclude these diagnosis.
-Diabetes.Dizziness is a common complaint in persons with diabetes, and may be caused by
low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), high blood sugar (
hyperglycemia), or autonomic dysfunction .
I suggest to test blood sugar to exclude this.
-
Thyroid disease (
Hypothyroidism and
Hyperthyroidism) also cause dizziness as a symptom.
Since she has dizziness, tiredness, weakness, lethargy, excessive sleep.I would suggest to exclude Hypothyroidism. You should do thyroid tests include TSH,T3,T4 and thyroid ultrasound
After have excluded this diseases I would think of more specific disorders such as:
-Iner ear disorders such as inflammation due to an viral or bacterial infection,Labyrinthitis that may follow a viral infection.
-Meniere's disease (is a disorder of the flow of fluids of the inner ear. Three symptoms usually found together are vertigo, hearing loss, and tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
-Neurologic cause.
I suggest to discuss all this possible causes with her treating doctor in order get to the right diagnosis and take the right treatment.
Hope my answer has helped.
Wish a quick and complete recovery to your sister.
