What Causes Frequent Episodes Of Chest Pain In A 57 Year Old Woman?
Hi I am a fit 57 year old woman and I have been having chest pains occasionally. They are quite painfull I was woken up last night with a very sharp strong pain in the centre of my chest which lasted for approx 20 minutes. I went to the doctor 2 years ago after I had 3 or 4 of these episodes. He did an ECG and said all my heart was ok. but last night I wasnt sure what to do
Your symptoms seem to be related to costochondritis. I suggest using over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs pain relievers such as ibuprofen. I recommend placing hot compresses or a heating pad on the painful area several times a day. Keep the heat on a low setting. Ice also might be helpful. Avoid activities that make your pain worse.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
