What Causes Frequent Nausea And Acid Reflux While On Macrobid?

I have been diagnosed with a uti. I have started Macrobid as a broad antibiotic awaiting the c&s. I have been having frequent nausea and severe acid reflux. Along with the usual urinary symptoms. The nausea and reflux have been going on for a week or more. I have taken pepto, omeprazole, ginger ale, crackers, toast with little to no relief. The nausea comes often as soon as I eat. No fevers. What can I do to relieve the reflux or nausea.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you've been having some problems after taking the Macrobid. As you probably guessed, Macrobid can cause these symptoms and is probably the cause in your case.

However, usually for a simple UTI you would only need to take the Macrobid for maybe 5 days, and hopefully your symptoms would resolve after stopping it. In the meantime, I think you're doing the right things, just make sure you are taking the Omeprazole 30 minutes before you eat. You may need a prescription medicine like Metoclopramide for your nausea, if Pepto isn't taking care of it.
