What Causes Frequent Nose Bleeds During Pregnancy?
Hi, I'm almost 26 weeks pregnant and getting frequent nose bleeds, last night i was woken up with a nose bleed, first time this has happened during night. Normally when i wake up my nose is filled with blood, but once cleared is normally fine again. Is this something to worry about? as this is now happening daily.
There is more blood flow to your entire face and head when you are pregnant, which is why some people say that pregnant women have a "glow". If you have a problem with your nose from before, it may have started bleeding because of the pregnancy. Dry air and seasonal allergies also can irritate the nose and cause some bleeding.
However, this amount of blood you are describing is a bit concerning. Some complications of pregnancy can cause your platelet count to drop (platelets are the part of your blood that helps it clot) so I advise you to tell your OB provider about this problem and they will test your blood for the platelet count and if necessary send you to a specialist to examine your nose.
I hope my advice was helpful and that I adequately answered your question today. Best wishes, Dr. Brown
