What Causes Frequent Urination And Burning Sensation During Urination?

I am interested in the effects of Oxalic acid on the acidity of the body and possible side effects. about 3 weeks ago, I increased the amount of dark green leafy vegetables I consume. I now eat a medium size green leafy salad at least 5-6 days per week. And just recently, I started experiencing very frequently a burning sensation and an urge to empty my bladder, including also at night. My recent urine tests did not show any bladder infection. But I am wondering if I the increase in Oxalic Acid in my body could explain these new symptoms. Thanks, Rina Cohen

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you are having frequent urination, burning sensation on urination and your urinalysis report does not show any UTI or bladder infection, it may be indicative of oxalate poisoning. You have been taking a lot of green leafy salads recently, you are suggested to limit the amount of your intake and take plenty of water to flush oxalate out of your body. You can take calcium rich food to bind oxalates. Cut on salt and sugar intake. You are suggested to take balanced home made food.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a Urologist to determine what stage of kidney disease you may have. Your treating urologist may recommend you to get ACR (Albumin to Creatinine Ratio) and GFR done. GFR includes kidney function tests and is performed through blood tests. This is to stay on the safer side. If needed, you will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
