What Causes Frequent Urination And Lower Backache?
I am 50 years old and had a 6-month follow up re-pap smear after abnormal cells were found (negative HPV test). Unfortunately, they did not get enough cells on the recent smear and I had to come back a week later (yesterday). Since last night, I have had cramping, bloating, frequent urination, and lower back pain. I ve been taking Advil. I called the dr office and they said discomfort may be due to me being menopausal (vaginal atrophy), scraping harder to ensure cells were obtained, and that all should subside in a few days. Is this normal?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes , they are right. After scraping are taken for the smear, pain may be felt there and in the back for a while. So this can be normal. One thing that we must see is that if there is any infection like fever, or you don't feel well in little time, or urgency ,frequency of urination; I would advise you should check your urine for possibility of an infection. Otherwise these things can be explained by the procedure.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
