Hi,
I've reviewed your concern and I'd try to explain to you how
urinary incontinence could be treated in a simple way because treatment of urinary incontinence depends on the type of the incontinence you have.
There are 5 types of urinary incontinence which are;
1. Stress incontinence: Where urine leaks when you exert some sort of pressure on your bladder such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising or lifting something heavy.
2. Urge incontinence: In this type you feel a sudden and intense urge to urinate followed by involuntary leakage of urine and you may need to urinate often, including throughout the night.
This type of incontinence could be caused by infection, or a more severe condition such as neurologic disorder or diabetes. Have you tried to check your blood sugar levels?
3. The third type is
overflow incontinence, in which you experience frequent or constant dribbling of urine due to a bladder that doesn't empty completely.
4. Functional incontinence.
5. Mixed incontinence. when you experience more than one type of urinary incontinence it would be called mixed incontinence.
Those were the types of incontinence that you might experience. As for what could cause the incontinence. Certain foods and drinks can act as diuretics and increasing your volume of urine causing you the
frequent urination and incontinence such as;
Alcohol, caffeine, decaffeinated tea and coffee, carbonated drinks, artificial sweeteners, corn syrup, foods with high amount of spice, sugar or acid, especially citrus fruits.
Also some medications have a diuretic effect or has an additive "synergistic" effect to diuretics. Some heart and blood pressure medications, sedatives, and muscle relaxants can have such effect. Also large doses of vitamins B or C might cause diuretic effect as well.
Some medical conditions might cause you the incontinence such as
urinary tract infection or
constipation.
All of the previous causes are temporary causes meaning that once you deal with the condition or the cause you will prevent the incontinence. There are some other causes that might cause permanent incontinence such as;
menopause,
enlarged prostate and neurological disorders among others.
In any case you need to visit the doctor to get you examined and determine the exact cause and then he/she could decide the best treatment for you because surgery is the last option in all the treatment options for incontinence. I'd also would recommend that you restrict water or liquid drinking 1-2 hours before going to bed in the meanwhile.
Hope this helped you understand what are the possible causes for you urinary incontinence.
I hope you get better soon.
