What Causes Frequent Urination While On Amoxicillin?

I was prescribed oxycodone 30mg tabs BID PRN for post accident back pain awhile ago. Recently I was prescribed amoxicillin for strep throat and all of a sudden I don t feel the same effects of my oxycodone and I am peeing much more frequently than normal. Are these related? Thx.

Hi,

Let me first clarify that Amoxicillin has nothing to do with Oxycodone or in other words, they do not interact with each other.

Regarding frequent urination, no such adverse effect is reported with the use of Amoxicillin. Rather Amoxicillin can cause diarrhea.

Your symptom of frequent urination might be due to urinary tract infection. Just get the urine examination (microscopy and culture) done.

For back pain, you can go for tablet Ibuprofen only if you have no contraindications for that medicine like kidney malfunctioning, age >60 years, bleeding disorders and gastric ulcers.
