What Causes Frequent Vomiting And Abdominal Pain While On Oxycontin And Oxycodone?
My husband had double knee replacement 5 weeks ago and was on OxyContin and oxycodone for pain. Last Tuesday he began vomiting and had severe upper abdominal pain. He was taken to the er and they could not find anything wrong and sent him home. He was still vomiting on Thursday and was admitted to the hospital. He finally stopped vomiting on Saturday and came home on Sunday. 24 hours later and he is vomiting again. They could not find anything wrong in any of the tests they performed. What should I do?
In absence of any reports of Ultrasonography, liver function tests or upper GI Endoscopy it is difficult to say about the cause. The possible cause can be severe gastritis. It can be due to Oxycontin and Oxycodone itself, hence stopping these and change over to another painkiller if at all needed as it is already 5 weeks after surgery and not much pain is expected. I hope he is a PPI like Pantoprazole, Domperidone and antacids for symptomatic relief.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
