What Causes Fungal Infection In The Anus Area?

For more than 2 weeks I have been treating a fungus in the anal area with flour acid. There does not seem to be any relief or improvement. I will be meeting with my physician on Friday. I am very careful and clean but no relief. Is there any similar symptoms for the possibly of anal cancer.

Hello,

Anal cancer is unlikely. You can apply topical antifungal like clotrimazole after cleaning with soap and water. Nothing much to worry as the symptoms will improve with antifungals.

If you are worried, you can go for a colonoscopy to rule out malignancy (cancer).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
