Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently been diagnosed with gastritis. I don t drink heavily, so that can t be a cause. I do take a lot of medications as I have a blood clotting disorder, primarily coumadin. I also have severe arthritis. Could these things contribute to gastritis? I have quite a lot of reflux, too, at night. Is gastritis serious?
Drugs intake for prolonged period can lead to gastritis like condition. Smoking, stress, H Pylori, outside food intake, excess spicy foods, etc., can lead to gastritis. For gastritis, suitable antacid like Rabeprazole or Pantoprazole can be prescribed. If improvement is not seen then H Pylori ruled out by urea breath test. For acid reflux antacid given but if improvement not seen than endoscopy or barium x-ray like procedure done to rule out Hiatus hernia.
Head elevated while sleeping. Avoid prolonged bending. Go to sleep 2 hours after meal. If needed for examination gastroenterologist can be consulted.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Parth Goswami
