What Causes Gastrointestinal Discomfort?

I have upper GI discomfort & visited my Internal Med Doc yesterday...all he said to me was to go in for blood work & he would schedule the regular things such as a colonoscopy & a ck-up for an ulcer. In the past, ( I am 75 years old & @ one-time in my late 30 s I had a duodenal ulcer!) What I do not understand, & did not ask...he just told me to go to psychiatrist! He did not refer me to one! The only personal problems I have, is the current fact was that I told him that my great grandaughter is in foster care & that upsets me!
