I had only one partner so far and he says that I was and am the first and the only one for him... Are these genital warts? Are there any inside my vagina and...? I might have HPV # 16 & 18? I m quite worried... :( Thank you in advance!
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
HPV causes genital warts. It is an STD; sexual contact is the only way one acquires them. I would suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your region for a confirmatory diagnosis. If indeed these are warts then most likely you got it from your sexual partner and he in turn from someone else outside. Regarding HPV, certain HPV types are high risk (types 16 and 18) and are associated with increased risk of cervical cancer. Pap smear can be used to obtain viral DNA which can then be typed to know the HPV type. If indeed the HPV types detected are type 16 Or type 18; Pap smear and colposcopy are useful tests to detect cancerous changes at an early stage. HPV types 6 and 11 also cause genital warts but are not associated with increased risk of cancer
