What Causes Getting Ridge In The Center Of Belly From Sternum To Navel?
When i am lying flat and lift my legs off the bed I get a ridge in the center of my belly from sternum to navel. It s not painful . I noticed this soon after having my appendices removed. Could that have caused this? What is this condition called? How serious is it to do nothing? Will doing sit ups correct it? Thank you.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history related to appendectomy operation, getting a ridge from sternum to naval in he center on lifting up the legs in laying down position. Wants to know the cause, the name for it seriousness and how to correct. This is called divarication of recti. The strong aponeurotic fibers that bind both the rectus sheath together get lax and allows the recti to get separated in such a position that you have explained. This is not at all serious as it does not pain or any entrapment of internal fat or intestines. But this indicates the weakness and hence should be and can be cared for. The abs exercises like elevating the head and legs in laying position can strengthen this well. Swimming and cycling are also very good exercises for this condition. Get started asap and get this corrected by proper exercises under the guidance of you trainer or a Physiotherapist.
