What Causes Grand Mal Seizure?

My son has epilepsy and has grand mal seizures daily. He says when it s hot (78 degrees) in the house that s why he has a seizure. I disagree. I tell him, if he takes his meds on a consistent basis then he wouldn t have a seizure whether it s hot or cold, etc. Thank you in advance for your answer

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your son's symptoms.

I agree with you that use of regular anti-epileptic medications would prevent recurrence of seizures. He should be on the correct anti-epileptic medications and at correct dose.

Heat or cold has no direct impact on seizure recurrence.

Factors that are known to cause recurrence of grand mal seizures are:

1. Lack of sleep,
2. Fasting,
3. Excess stress or tension,
4. Skipping the anti-epileptic medications,
5. Very high fever.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.
