What Causes Green Colored Stool Movement In A Child?

Hi am trying to figure out why my 5 1/2 year old son has bright green poop. He said he did not eat any green jello, pedialite or fruit snacks which are the only reason I found online for this color of stool. It honestly looks like he ate a bright green crayon. But, he says he did not eat a crayon.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Green stool can also occur if there is an increased frequency of bowel movements.

Green can be due to the presence of bile. Bile is normally present in the stool but as the stool moves through the colon, it changes and this causes the stool to become brown instead of green.

If the stool is passed frequently then the bowel does not have the time to change.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
