Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 4 month old had a grey stool. She only had one, no more reoccurring afterwards and her ped nurse wants me to bring her in. She is trying food for the first time and because she is digesting something new, I m thinking its nothing to freak about. I just don t want to rush and take her unless it s reoccurring. Is this wrong? Given this information, the nurse/doctor will not be able to examine the stool and her stool is normal now.
As there was only single episode of grey stool (in accordance with history of new food supply to baby), I predict physiologic response of the liver and bile system of the body responsible for color of stool and as now the stool color is normal, it does not seem to be of that hazardous threat. Gentle guidance to avoid same formula next time, and even after that if the stool turns out grey (then consideration of problems with liver conjugation of bile salts must be thought of) consult me immediately for follow up guidance.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
