Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I am a female and the past two days I have had grey stringy stuff on my stool. This very gross, but it greatly concerns me. Alot of other answers say that is a sign of worms. I currently have cats and hope this would not be the case. Any thing helps thank you
Based on the history you have shared, it seems that most probably you are being treated for IBS not IBC because the drug history doesn't correspond. Then comes your actual concern and it can be due to variety of causes.
If it's clay colored or light greyish it can be due to liver disease. Any such disease of biliary tract or liver which causes outflow obstruction of liver bilirubin can lead to such stools.
Liver function tests and ultrasound abdomen are highly recommended. if stool color turns further black, it can be due to blood loss from upper gastric tract and that needs to be tested with a stool for occult blood and complete blood count as well as endoscopy in serve cases.
Meanwhile you keep monitoring that whether it turns further black like a tar or remains light grey or clay colored. Improve oral hydration and avoid too much spicy or fizzy drinks or foods.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein
