What Causes Growing And Painless Swelling In Throat?

I went to sleep last night with no problems. I woke up this morning with quite a large lump in my throat under my chin I do not get any pain when eating or swallowing, but the lump keeps getting bigger and then going a bit smaller the swelling under my chin looks unsightly, what can be the cause.

Hi….
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC...

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

Most swollen glands or lumps under the chin are very common response of body towards any unwanted reaction occurring inside and not a cause for concern. The glands (lymph nodes) on either side of the neck, under the jaw, commonly swell when you have a cold or sore throat.

Swelling under the chin commonly causes:-
•     When the body fights infections from colds, insect bites, or small cuts.
•     Tooth decay
•     Swollen/ infected gums
•     Throat infection
•     Sinusitis
•     Viral infections like, mononucleosis, Epstein-Barr virus and cytomegalovirus in the past.
•     Tonsillitis, which may also cause swelling in the neck.

Hope this answers your question. If you have any additional questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your question.

Wish you good health.
Thanks & Regards,
Dr.Shiwani
