Hello and welcome to HCM, Warts on genitals are caused by human papilloma virus (HPV). HPV is sexually transmitted infection and it is a risk factor for development of various cancers in males and females. A normal pap smear rules out possibility of HPV infection in the genital tract. The wart like lesions in your husband need to be managed. These warts can be treated with cautery and it should be send for histopathological examination. The exact nature of these warts needs to be determined and HPV infection needs to be ruled out. If there is evidence of HPV infection in the wart, preventive action needs to be taken to prevent its transmission. Using barrier method during intercourse is effective in preventing transmission of infection. You should also undergo routine pap smear to closely monitor the development of HPV infection.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
