What Causes Gurgling Noise In Stomach While On Lactulose For Sharp Pain In Abdomen?

Hi, I enam 66 yrs old, 5 9 tall . Approx, 200lbs. For 2 days I ve had quite a sharp pain in my lower right abdomen which is worse sometimes than others. I sometimes become a little sweaty. I haven t had a really good bowel movement for at least three days. I have been taking lactulose for two days which doesn t seem to help much although just now my tummy is making lots of gurgling noises! All this coincided with putting my back out about the same time for which I have been taking dihydrocodine ( 6 to 8 daily) I have had a routine prostate check and regular bowel cancer checks every 2 yrs. My blood pressure is 125/64 pulse around 48 -60 bum.Do you think this could still be constipation which I have been treated for about 6 months ago. Many thank in anticipation.

Thanks for your question.
After going through your question, I can understand your concern.

There is a need for detailed clinical examination including per abdominal examination and per rectal examination.

Gurgling sound with pain and constipation denotes hyper active intestinal activity which may be due to infection, some mechanical obstruction like impacted stool or may be some other serious cause that need timely evaluation.

In such case I may suggest -
- Urgent Ultrasonography of abdomen and pelvis.
- Blood tests like Complete Blood Count, Renal function test, Liver function test, Urine examination.
- X-ray abdomen standing.

Depending upon detailed clinical evaluation and above test results need for further evaluation like CT scan of abdomen and pelvis or endoscopy can be decided.

Till that time omit hydo- codeine which may leads to constipation try antacid, antispasmodic.

If there are vomiting, feeling of dizziness, intense abdominal pain, lethargy go to ER.
