Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Hair Growth Causing Discomfort Under Foot?
I have found 2 hairs in the bottom of my foot in the past few weeks. Thought they were splinters at first but after removing them are certain they are hairs without a root. What is this and what causes such, as well as any other significant thing that I should know regarding this topic.
Hair splinters happens when a strand of strong hair pierces through the upper surface (top layers) of your foot skin. That is not a serious condition. But, if let inside, the hair can be infected and cause pain and pus. As you already removed the hair, keep the area well clean, and can apply antibiotic ointment locally until the skin is completed healed. It could be of great help if you send a picture of the hair piece of the affected foot area as we should rule out cutaneous larva migraines, which is a parasitic infection of the skin.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
