What Causes Hair Loss On Scalp And Eyebrows When Diagnosed With Kidney Disease?

I have lost a lot of hair on my scalp. I am 70 years old and always have had a head of hair all my life. Recently I have noticed hair loss on my eyebrows. My husband has Stage 4 chronic Kidney desease. He is on a no salt or potassium. Could this have anything to do with it, as I eat what he eats and have lost 30 lb. I appreciate your help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Zinc selenium and calcium deficiencies may cause hair loss as well as vitamin E and A may also contribute. Restricted diets may be one of the cause but with such hair loss and weight loss you should get baseline work up for any underlying metabolic cause or any underlying malignant process. Meanwhile replacement of the said supplement may be helpful and may need to be initiated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
