Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am an African American woman. I have been taking this Fluconazole since 10/2016. I started out 400mg BID 200mg tabs . In 2/2017 or 3/2017 I started 800mg QID 200mg tabs. I noticed recently in the last month or so I have lost about 25% of hair. With everyday combing I have noticed more hair lost. Is this normal.
hello dear. thanks for trusting HCM. I have gone through your questions and understood your worries. you've taken fluconazole so long, may I know is your fungal infection getting better?
Fluconazole is an azole antifungal, used to prevent and treat a variety of fungal and yeast infections.
there're many side effects of this drug, and yes! hair loss may occur when using fluconazole. the other most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset/pain, headache, dizziness, and rash.
if you feel your hair loss persist or get worsen each day you comb your hair, it's better for you to tell your treating doctor. you may need dose adjustment or change the medicine.
Hope these can clarify your questions. if there's anything else you want to discuss, feel free to ask me in HCM. take care. get well soon.
best regards, dr. Asti Yuliadha
