Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have RA and have been on an MTX injection for 6 1/2 years. I take the maximum dose of folic acid a day and biotin. About 8 months ago my hair started falling out around the crown of my head. Now the back and the sides are falling out. I asked my husband to give me an honest answer as to how much of my hair has fallen out and he said At least 50% :( What are my options as far a medicine goes? I understand that it is a rare side effect of MTX and maybe I am just one of the lucky ones. I have recently been dx with fibromyalgia as well. What advice do you have for me. This makes me almost as sad as the pain :)

What Causes Hair Loss While On MTX Injections?
Hi, The hair fall could be due to chronic use of MTX against rheumatoid arthritis. However, there are ways to re-grow the lost hair. PRP (platelet rich plasma) and hair transplant are the options available nowadays. I suggest you consult a dermatologist for assessment. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
