Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I take 100mg metoprolol succinate XR daily among other meds for atrial fibrillation and am experiencing increasing hair loss - almost handfuls with each combing. A nurse at my coumadin clinic suggested that metoprolol might be the reason. If true and as my hair is thinning noticeably, I am wondering if there s a different med without this side effect. Please advise. THank you
May I know since how long you are on metoprolol? Hair fall is a rare side effect of metoprolol and usually starts after four to five months of treatment. However, there is no need to worry as hair fall is reversible on stopping of the drug.
As I have no other information regarding your disease and medication, I can't directly advise you to decrease the dose or change the medication. Better to consult your treating physician, who will guide you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Hiren Hirpara
