What Causes Hand Clawing During Pregnancy?

My son s girlfriend is 7 months pregnant. She woke up this morning and felt weird then her hands clawed up and she was awake but unresponsive. It lasted about an hour and then she had a mild headache. Her ob suggests that she try deep breathing. She has had a brain scan and it shows nothing abnormal. What can we do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Clawing of hand could be due to calcium deficiency.
You can consult a physician and get her serum Calcium levels checked.

She may require calcium supplements along with rich calcium diet - milk and its products, meat, ragi ,sea fish and other calcium rich foods.

Since she is pregnant , for headache only paracetamol is the safest drug at a dose of 500mg 3 times a day maximum.
Make sure shes having fluids and a balanced nutritious diet.

Regards,
Dr.Riyanka
