What Causes Hard Lump On Foot?

I have a hard multinodular lump atop my right foot (pinky side about an inch and a half below the ankle) which seems to be suddenly rapidly growing. I have had a small pebble like lump in this spot as long as I can remember, but about a week ago i noticed the spot was tender, like a bruise, and much (3x+) larger than before, also up to today my feet and lower legs had pretty bad pitting edema that started at the same time as when I noticed that the lump on my foot. The edema is now gone, I have this very odd heavy crampy feeling on the back of my right leg below the knee. I do not have insurance and don t want to run up a bill of its nothing, but at the same time I m worried. The lump is hard like bone, immoveable, about 1/2 wide, 1/4 long, and is painless. Any ideas what this might be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of having a hard, immobile lump at the dorsum of foot for a long time which increased over few days and settled again, have no insurance hence do not want to add on the bills. Well, as per the history you have provided this may be one of the following:
- Tenosynovitis with lump formation
- Pre-existing cyst that got infected
- Bunion that got infected

This can be diagnosed by the following ways considering your no-insurance problems. Consult a Doctor at the walk-in-clinic so that at least a clinical examination will tell what it is. There may be facility of Ultrasonography and this will help to confirm what it is. All this will allow a plan to have surgical management after you are covered with insurance.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
