What Causes Hard Lump On Top Of Patella Along With Excruciating Pain?

I fell really hard on my knee and elbow about a month ago. Ever since then I can t kneel on it or hit a certain spot on it. It seems to be a ball type knot in my knee on top of the patella. The skin on top of it is starting to become numb and shoots excruciating pain when I kneel a certain way or hit it on that exact spot. I guess I m curious as to what you might think it is? Tissue? Nerve? The pain is unbearable when barely pushed.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

From your history, it seems like knee bursitis, fluid filled sac got inflammation or iliotibial band problem, once MRI can can tell exact cause (rest, ice, elevation, compression and analgesic can help, sometimes injection at site can be needed). Physical examination by an orthopedist can tell exactly about it as there are 3-4 causes.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
