What Causes Hard Mucus With Voice Hoarseness?

Hi, I had a septoplasty almost a year ago. Everything healed fine, I had a normal recovery & that was that. Now, I don t know if this is out of the ordinary, but I ve been experiencing a hoarse voice (occasionally), & have been getting these extremely chunky balls of booger/mucus. It s sometimes hard to get them out, I have to suck them into my mouth to get rid of them. What s the deal?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Well, noted the history of successful surgery of septoplasty almost a year ago.
The present problem of thick mucus which is difficult to expel ans occasional hoarse voice looks to be altogether a different problem.
The incidence of occasional hoarseness of voice may be due to the thick phlegm attached to the vocal cords and must be getting relieved on expulsion of phlegm.
The cause of the thick phlegm may be a subclinical infection.
I would advise you the following:
- Voice rest-
Steam inhalation.
- Send the phlegm for gram staining, culture and sensitivity.
- X-ray of the chest as the infection may be originating from the chest.
-Appropriate antibiotics and supportive medicines to get a complete relief.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis and treatment and complete recovery .
