What Causes Hard Stomach With Increased Heart Rate And High BP?

Although I have had gastrointestinal problems over the years, I have never had a bout like I have presently been enduring. In addition to the normal concerns, for the past month, I have had an unusually increased sense of "hard-belly", which is accompanied by a tremendously increased heart rate (105bpm) and crazy blood pressure (158/98). with a history of ulcerative colitis, should I be especially concerned about these symptoms? I am a 49 year old male with a history of relatively good health outside of prolonged rectal bleeding experiences and gastrointestinal discomfort. thanx so much for your ideas.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of ulcerative colitis, prolonged rectal bleeding and gastrointestinal discomfort for a long time. Now have hard belly, raised Blood Pressure and Heart rate too.
All this can occur due to eh bleeding and inflammation of the intestines as you are a known patient of ulcerative colitis.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get an opinion of a Gastroenterologist.
Get admitted to the hospital for urgent investigations of blood and stool.
Contrast enhanced CT scan of the abdomen.
Colonoscopy if the condition allows.
You may need blood transfusion, a course of metronidazole and antibiotics.
Further management as per the reports of investigations and clinical response to the treatment.
