Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m female. One of my nipples (the right one) is firmer than the other. It also feels slightly harder but I don t think it s cancer. My left breast also produces some milk as a side effect of one of my medications, but the right one doesn t. I can also feel a slightly harder area under the right nipple.
Since you can feel a harder area under the right nipple you are suggested to get clinically examined in the ER. Your treating doctor will order a mammogram and breast ultrasound. In addition, breast MRI, PET/CT or scintimammography may be obtained. If the harder area is confirmed to be benign, you will still be under observation to see if it grows or disappears over time.
In case the report is inconclusive, biopsy may be ordered. Your further treatment will depend on the pathology detected. Not all lumps are harmful, some are due to cyst, fibroadenoma, infection, fibrocystic breast disease, etc. But you should get all investigations done to stay on the safer side.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
