What Causes Head Congestion Along With Nasal And Ear Drainage?

Hi Dr. Rynne,
I am experiencing some head congestion and nasal drainage. Last night my ear filled with fluid to the point of causing moderate pain then increased as the fluid continued to fill the ear. I felt a popping sensation and my ear immediately started to drain fluid that appeared to have light blood in it. It still continues to drain, however, the fluid appears to have thickened and seems to have a darker shade of blood. I've also experienced sore throat pain, no fever or body aches. Please advise

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from Sinus Congestion or Sinusitis leading to Post Nasal drip that is causing sore throat along with ear infection along with fluid accumulation behind the eardrum..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS VIEW or MRI scan of sinuses and Otoscopic examination of the ears can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised to take antibiotics like Augmentin, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytics like Ambroxol and anti allergics like Levocetrizine..
You can be advised to take decongestant nasal spray, do saline nasal irrigation and do steam inhalation..
Use a humidifier in your room and do warm saline gargles..
Antibiotic and steroid eardrops can also be advised..
