What Causes Headache After Receiving IV Infusion Of Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate?

I was given 1000mg IV infusion of methylprednisolone sodium succinate for my MS. I am coming off 60 months of Tysabri infusions because of 2 allergic reactions. My doctor wants me to go to Copaxene now, but I am 58 with secondary progressive ms. Now, after 4 hours, I am having major issues walking, lips are numbered, major headache, tingling sensation throughout my body, high heart rate, shortness of breath, and blood pressure going up. Should I be concerned?

Hi,

Yes, this is to be concerned about.
Hence, you should consult at ER or with your treating Doctor as soon as possible so that there can be a clinical evaluation to see whether the cause is related to the infusion or something else so that a proper management can be done along with proper investigations.
Even the preservatives for any injections can cause allergic reaction, Methylprednisolone is the medicine of choice in case of reaction which you have been given as a treatment for your MS.
It can cause water lodging in body raising the blood pressure and causing edema.
Hence rush to the ER to get investigated and treated as per the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
