Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a sore throat. No coughing. Mild congestion and a headache. This morning I coughed up a red chunk of tissue about an inch long. Was that a tonsil falling out? I don t feel any pain. In fact my sore throat is slightly better. Do I have reason to worry?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Padmaja's Response
I understand your concern.Reason for sore throat is due to congestion, the post nasal discharge predisposing to the infection in throat. Its good to know that you are feeling better. The tissue with streak of blood you noticed could be nothing but mucoid tissue from throat due to hawking. Its better not to do that from now on.You can do salt water gargling and take warm liquids to get relieved of soreness in throat. Now as you are feeling better ,avoid taking cold drinks or water to not aggravate the condition.Hope my advise was helpful to you.Would be happy to answer any further concerns
