What Causes Headache And Vision Distortion?

Hi, yesterday I had a dull headache for a while then had flickering lights on my right side of my vision. I have bad allergies and have had my ears, especially my right ear plugged up and sort of achy off and on. I also have asthma and is hard to breath when the weather is humid. When I got the headache and vision distortion I felt a lot of anxiety and stressed out so I took my Lorazepam .5 mg and it went away. I am a caretaker for my sister who has had four strokes and my 87 year old mother. I am pretty much stressed out a lot. I had also taken care of my son through his cancer six years ago. He passed away after two years of fighting at age 16. Two years ago I also helped my dad with his mesotheslioma until he passed away in January 2014. I basically took on the responsibility of caring for family members. Could I have had a panic or anxiety attach? I am always tired but keep on going,

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all, I would like to say that you indeed are a generous and brave person that has gone through tough times in life.

While I look into your problem, I can interpret that the visual disturbance that you are experiencing is associated with a migraine episode.

Spasm of blood vessels in the brain during a migraine episode usually cause this kind of visual disturbances.

While I can’t see anything serious for now, I would suggest you go to an ophthalmologist for retina examination if you feel the same symptoms are appearing more frequently or more in severity.

I would suggest you consult a neurologist also for the scan to look for any lesion in the brain.

But yet, I can assure you, for now, not to be too much worried about these symptoms and to get these examinations as part of your routine examinations.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Maninder, General & Family Physician
