What Causes Headache, Nausea And Body Out Of Balance?

yesterday when i sat up in bed, i felt real woozy. When I walked to the bathroom it felt like my legs were t working, like my feet weren t touching the floor. I was ok when I sat, but when I got up, I felt sick to my stomach and the same wierd feeling. It lasted all day. Today I went to the regular Dr. had him check my ears, nothing wrong. He checked me for stroke, nothing. I did the one foot in front of the other test, couldnt do it. I was all out of balance. It s not vertigo. The rest of the day today, I had a headache, feeling nauseated, not as bad with the balance, but still there.

Hello,

It is good to know that you have your ears checked by an ENT and it is not Vertigo. You are having co-ordination problems presently and have problems balancing. It looks like you are suffering from persistent ataxia. To prevent ataxia avoid alcohol, substance abuse or addictions if any. Medical conditions that causes such symptoms are brain degeneration, tumor, side effects of certain medications, cerebral palsy, MS, etc.

Neglect may result in motor skill impairment that may effect walking, speech, ability to swallow, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a Neurologist, get physical examination & neurological examination done. Your memory, co ordination, vision, hearing, reflexes will be checked, you will be recommended to get CT/MRI, lumbar puncture, genetic testing done.

You will be treated accordingly. Physical therapy will help. Occupational therapy and speech therapy may be recommended if required. In the meantime, take acetaminophen, one SOS when headache. Do not drive or do any heavy task. Stay at rest and do walking with the help of a walker. You can take multivitamin caps/tabs, once daily for fifteen days.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
