What Causes Headache,lightheadedness And Nausea?

My husband came home from errands and experienced lightheadedness, nausea and was a little headachy When looking up to replace a fridge water filter felt more lightheaded. I had stained some stair spindles yesterday and had brought them in from outside . The house had been closed while we were away and he felt he had a bad reaction to the fumes a few minutes after coming into the house. I took his BP when I came home as he had Afib but an ablation 2 years ago is keeping him in normal rhythm. Blood preasure 136/79 rate 73. It s been a few hours now....and he still doesn t feel right. Not as lightheaded but still feeling a little nauseous. Could this still be a reaction to those staining fumes or is this something else. There is no confusion and his mind is sharp...

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It could be due to staining fumes, keep him in an airy, well oxygenated place. Headache associated with nausea can be due to tension headache or migraine. Dizziness / light headedness is due to dehydration, low blood glucose, BP issues or vertigo, etc. You are suggested to get him examined by a GP / Cardiologist since he has history of atrial fibrillation. Get all urinalysis, blood (CBC, lipid profile, etc) and imaging (X-ray, Echo, CT, MRI) tests done to detect any CAD developing. In the meantime, he can take Acetaminophen (tylenol), one SOS when needed for relief. Avoid addictions if any, do not drive. His treatment will depend on the pathology detected.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
