What Causes Headaches After Taking Lidocaine?
I have had lidocaine now twice in the past 6 months: once in liquid form for a sore in my mouth and once as a tiny injection for a cyst on my face. Both times, terrible headache. Why? But, over 40 years, I ve had novacaine for dental procedures and never a problem. What s the difference?

it's very unusual for local treatment to cause such side effects but lidocaine may indeed cause headache, so it is possible. Novocaine is a different drug. It's similar to lidocaine but not the same. Perhaps another cause has to be considered. If there's no doubt that your headache was caused by lidocaine then you'd better avoid it in the future. Be warned though that all local anesthetics belong to the same drug class, which means that their side effects would be similar.
