Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has had headaches when she wakes up and gets a head rush when she stands. We just had a physical and the pulse was 60 lying down, 72 sitting, and 88 standing. The BP was normal for all 3. They have referred us to a neurologist. What could this possibly be?
Thanks for consulting. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.
this is due to the postural variation the blood supplied to the head get increases as a compensation for gravity. while lying down the heart doesn't need to put more effort while sitting the effort increases while standing it increases even more in order to maintain the same blood flow. so initially for few seconds there will be slight giddiness and head ache. this explains the variation in the pulse whereas the BP remains constant.
Hope it helps. If you need further, detailed and quick assistance related to any health issues in future, feel free to 'ask me a question' directly from my profile.
Have a wonderful time ahead.
Best Regards! Dr. Arunmozhi varman
